These days there’s a lot of talk about genetic modification. It’s typically not a good thing, but with God, it’s the best thing.
Man has genetically modified seeds to grow bigger plants, have a greater harvest, and be resistant to attacks of bugs and disease. Unfortunately, they must be treated with toxic chemicals for maximum growth and resilience. Man’s procedures can actually harm the very ones who consume the plants for food. “A man’s ways are right in his own eyes” (Prov. 21:2).
We become new creations in Christ by receiving Jesus into our hearts and becoming born again (John 3:3, John 3:7 & 1 Peter 1:23). “Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation” (1Cor. 5:17). Our spirits, in essence, become genetically modified. Our hearts are altered. We have been re-born with God's DNA.
In God’s way of making us new creations, He genetically modifies us by re-creating our inner man (our spirit). But the outer man (mind, will, and emotions) also need to be re-vamped - cleansed, by the washing of the water of the Word of God - the Bible. We have pure water and need good food, so we are to feed on the Word of God daily. The Bible is water and food. “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). A good Father feeds His children good food.
Through the Word, we’ll learn how much God loves us, how much He wants us to be with Him, and what great plans He has for us (Jer. 29:11). God’s Word also washes away old ideas of who we are and how we thought we were to live. The old life was one of toxicity that harmed us and others around us.
Through this genetic modification, God's presence, and His Word, we’ll grow stronger. We’ll become drought-tolerant and be able to fight off diseases, and other enemies out to attack us. This kind of modification helps us strengthen others around us. We can show them the good, pure fruit of our genetic modification and offer them the food we’ve been eating, so they can taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8).
