We were designed to have our every need met by Jesus Christ. He loves to fill hungry hearts to overflowing with His abundance. Have you ever tried to feed a child that was too busy and distracted? Most of the food ends up everywhere but in their mouth. It is a frustrating process. I believe we can become frustrated in our daily walk with Jesus because we are constantly in a place of distraction. It is so easy to be busy, over-stimulated and distracted. This can steal our ability to drink deeply of the love of Jesus. To truly be filled to overflowing, we need to position ourselves in a place of rest. We need to be still. We must actively choose to disconnect from every distraction. It is in this place of rest we can gaze upon the face of Jesus and allow His sustenance to nourish and satisfy our souls.
In the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10, Martha was busy and distracted by the many things she needed to do. Mary chose not to be distracted; she decided, in that moment, that the presence of Jesus was more valuable. Let us be like Mary and choose Jesus. When we position ourselves in stillness and rest and seek the face of the One we love, we are filled to overflowing with the fullness of God.
Jesus, I choose You! I choose to position myself in a place of stillness, in a place of rest. You have my full attention and the desire of my heart. I am hungry, and only You can satisfy me. Would You fill me to overflowing today?
